Fiber to the Home (FTTH) is the next wave in communication technology. It uses fiber-optic cable instead of traditional copper cable to deliver telephone, Internet, and video service. The upgrade to fiber-optic cable provides capacity for unlimited amounts of data, which is particularly relevant to Internet and video communication technologies. As Shawnee Telephone completes burial of fiber-optic cable and installation of the required equipment, your home service will be ready for the demands of today’s telephone, Internet, and video communications.
Fiber optic equipment will allow Shawnee Telephone to offer cleaner, more reliable home telephone service. You may not notice any change in your service except that you’ll have a supplied battery back-up that will maintain your phone service in case of a power outage.
With fiber-to-the-home, you’ll enjoy a faster Internet (data) experience. A fiber-to-the-home system will also give Shawnee Telephone the ability to provide necessary bandwidth for high tech services developing in years ahead.
Shawnee Telephone made huge strides in our FTTH project in 2011.
In early August, we began migrating the entire Cave In Rock exchange to the FTTH network. The Cave In Rock portion of our project encompassed over 500 subscribers and as of mid-November, is over 90% completed. Cave In Rock subscribers who have not been converted to the FTTH network should call in immediately in to schedule an appointment.
In early October, we began moving our “in-town” subscribers in Elizabeth town to the FTTH network. The “in-town” Elizabethtown portion of our project will see over 150 subscribers moved to the FTTH network and as of mid-November, is over 90% completed. “In-Town” Elizabethtown subscribers that have not been converted to the FTTH network should call in immediately in to schedule an appointment.
In early November, we began working on our “in-town” subscribers in Eddyville, which consists of approximately 150 subscribers. After a few short weeks of work, Eddyville is nearly 50% completed. “In-Town” Eddyville subscribers who have not been converted to the FTTH network should call in immediately in to schedule an appointment.
The remaining weeks of 2011 will see us move into Rosiclare and Golconda. Residents in those communities will be notified of when FTTH conversions are ready to take place.
